Some malls are offering more extravagant rewards this year for shopping with them during Singapore's biggest annual sale event.

Apart from the usual discounts and reward vouchers, shoppers stand to win big-ticket items such as holidays and cars at the Great Singapore Sale.

At Robinsons, shoppers who spend a minimum of $150 at any of its three outlets - at The Heeren, Raffles City and Jem - have a chance to drive away in a Volvo XC60.

A spokesman for Robinsons says the lucky draw, which started on May 10 and will end on July 17, has attracted about 70,000 entries.

Such a high-value item has been offered as a prize, he adds, because the Great Singapore Sale is one of the bigger campaigns for the department store, so it felt this was the "best time to incentivise our customers".

Shaw Centre is also giving away a car - a Mazda 6 - as its grand prize for a lucky draw which shoppers can enter by spending $100 at the mall.

At The Seletar Mall, a three-day, two-night cruise for four on the SuperStar Gemini to either Malacca or Kuala Lumpur worth almost $5,000 is the top lucky draw prize.

Shoppers can qualify for the draw, which also has other prizes such as household appliances and vouchers, by spending a minimum of $50 at the mall. The draw ends on June 26.

At Marina Square, $1,000 worth of vouchers from the adjoining Marina Mandarin hotel will be given to five winners.

The vouchers can be used to book a staycation at the five-star hotel. Customers have to spend $50 and above to qualify for the draw, which ends on June 26.

But do the fancy prizes really entice shoppers to spend more?

Administrative assistant Christine Lee, 35, who regularly shops during the Great Singapore Sale, says she is more attracted to bigger discounts and more affordable prices.

"The lucky draws are nice, but I've participated in them before and have never won anything. During the sale, I buy what I need and what I feel is worth buying when the prices have been cut.

"I would not spend more just to get a chance to win something."
