How would you describe your sense of style?

With the exception of blue jeans, I generally gravitate towards monochromatic outfits.

When did your interest in fashion start?

I started paying more attention to what I wore when I was in university. There was a lot of trial and error, and some of those outfits should never have seen the light of day.

Who are your favourite designers and your go-to brands?

I like Japanese fashion designer Rei Kawakubo for her futuristic design and her structured, asymmetrical pieces and British designer Phoebe Philo of French fashion label Celine for her chic, androgynous look.

My go-to brands are Zara, A.P.C., Beyond The Vines, Shopatvelvet and Acne, as their clothes combine both form and function.

Who are your style icons and why?

American socialite Olivia Palermo is one of my style icons. I adore the way she mixes feminine classics with contemporary cuts. She can pull off tricky trends such as mixing textures and patterns and still look chic.

What are your favourite pieces in your wardrobe?

Singapore womenswear brand Beyond The Vine's front wrap trousers (photo 1) - it is a great pair of statement trousers that is fun and easy to pair with a fitted cropped top. I also like Indonesian brand Shopatvelvet's oversized Alex top (photo 2). It is comfortable and perfect to throw on whenever I am feeling lazy. Also, my adidas Stan Smith (photo 3) and Nike Airmax One (photo 4) sneakers. I am a huge fan of sneakers. Give me a pair of sneakers, wide-leg trousers and I am good to go.

Do you have any weaknesses when it comes to shopping?

When a piece of clothing fits me to a T, I tend to get it in every available colour.

What is your favourite splurge piece?

My medium Celine Trapeze bag (photo 5) that I got in Paris about three years ago for $3,400. I like it because it is well-structured and adds a pop of colour to my otherwise monochromatic outfit.

Is there a purchase you have regretted?

Buying ill-fitting tank tops on impulse. When I was younger, I sacrificed quality to buy as many pieces of clothing as I could within my budget. Now, I much prefer quality over quantity.

What is your most recent fashion purchase?

An embroidered satin clutch from British label Alexander McQueen, which I bought for about US$550 (S$763) (photo 6). It is a versatile piece and has adjustable looped handles.

What is the best shopping or style advice you live by?

Perfection is overrated. Keep it simple and always have a good pair of sneakers.
