Marsala eyes

Deep red eyeshadow livens up skin tone, brightens the face

What: Eyeshadow in the Pantone colour of the year, marsala.

Why you should start wearing it: Deep reds with brown undertones may not look like the easiest shade to pull off on your eyes. But when done right, it is incredibly flattering. "It livens up the skin tone and brightens up the face," says make-up artist Dollei Seah.

How to wear it: First, even out your complexion. Any redness will be highlighted when you wear red eyeshadow. Then make sure your eyes are defined with a black or deep brown liner.

If you want to play it safe, pick a matte shade and smudge the colour close to the lash line. Then finish with mascara.

Want to go all the way? Bring the colour up to the crease and blend well. Then add marsala eyeshadow with a metallic or shimmery texture on the middle of the lids.
