BANGKOK (THE NATION/ASIA NEWS NETWORK) - After a paper-wrapped candle is lit, its end glides over a customer's face, as it is claimed this will help get rid of Demodex mites in gland secretions called sebum and alleviate allergy symptoms.

The candle is said to be made from a secret Malaysian herb recipe.

While the Demodex microbes could not be seen leaving a customer, the smoke did get into her nose and result in some coughing.

Directly imported from Sungai Kolok district in the southern province of Narathiwat, the service is currently available at Klong Phadung Krung Kasem in Bangkok near Government House, where a southern-themed market is being held until March 24.
