NEW YORK • It may seem as if Gigi Hadid, Kendall Jenner, Hailey Baldwin, Lily-Rose Depp, Brooklyn Beckham and Georgia May Jagger only recently swept onto the fashion scene, but a new group of celebrities' children are already rising through the ranks.
They are no older than 23, have thousands and sometimes millions of Instagram followers and have appeared in campaigns and shows for the likes of Chanel, Miu Miu, Alexander Wang, Calvin Klein and Stella McCartney.
Call them Generation Celebrity Spawn.
Sofia Richie (daughter of singer Lionel Richie), Dylan Jagger Lee (son of actress Pamela Anderson and drummer Tommy Lee), Selah Marley (granddaughter of singer Bob Marley), Sailor Brinkley Cook (daughter of supermodel Christie Brinkley), Kenya Kinski-Jones (daughter of music producer Quincy Jones and actress Nastassja Kinski), Iris Law (daughter of actor Jude Law) and Levi Dylan (grandson of Bob Dylan) were famous initially because of their parentage and the luck of their genes.
But they are smart enough to realise that with a bit of social media effort, they could parlay that start into a career.
Of her generation, Richie, 18, has the biggest Instagram following - 1.7 million. She landed a modelling contract in 2014, was the face of Madonna's and Lourdes Leon's Material Girl fall 2015 collection and has appeared in editorials for Elle, Vogue China, Nylon and Vanity Fair China.
Kaia Gerber, 15, daughter of supermodel Cindy Crawford and businessman Rande Gerber, has 910,000 followers on Instagram. Perhaps unsurprisingly - considering who her mother is - she made her modelling debut for a major brand: Young Versace. Earlier this month, Marc Jacobs announced that she would be the new face of the company's Beauty line.
She appeared in the seventh issue of Carine Roitfeld's CR Fashion Book alongside her brother, Presley Gerber, 17, who has 164,000 followers on Instagram.
This summer, Presley walked in the Dolce & Gabbana men's show and in the Moschino resort show and was one of the famous faces chosen for Calvin Klein's fall 2016 campaign (previously starring Justin Bieber and Jenner, among others).
