Mention red-carpet hairdos and most would envision glamorous coiffures, flowing waves and elegant chignons.
But at some recent red-carpet events, actresses went for updated versions of the sleek and simple bob. Actresses Sarah Hyland and Taraji P. Henson both attended the recent Emmy awards with different takes on the style.
Model Kiko Mizuhara showed up at the Hollywood premiere of the film Attack On Titan with a slicked-back style that showed off her defined features.
Hairstylists here say short hair is all the rage this season and the bob is definitely making an impact.
"I think short hair brings out a person's character. It shows independence and confidence and it is trendy," says Mr Jordan Lam, style director at Toni & Guy (East Coast).
The versatility of the bob also adds to its appeal.
Mr Eugene Ong, founder and managing director of Urbanhair salon at Seviin at Tangs, says: "Most women think shorter hair is less feminine and could be unflattering to their face shape. But longer hair doesn't always make your face look smaller.
"The bob is great because it is highly versatile. It can be expressed in so many variations. It is all about showing your own personality."
Indeed, whether it is graduated, blunt, curled or coloured, the bob is adaptable to different face shapes, personalities and occasions.
