Add highlights for texture

SARAH HYLAND

The 24-year-old Modern Family actress attended the Emmys with a side-swept tousled bob.

This textured style better complements those with round or square faces, says Mr Jordan Lam, style director at Toni & Guy (East Coast).

He adds: "For those with darker hair, add highlights and lowlights. Otherwise, the styling and layers will not show up as much, especially in pictures.

"Highlights will define the texture and give the look more body and volume."

To get the look, ask for a layered bob that ends just above the shoulders.

How to style the look:

1. Apply a heat-protecting spray to freshly washed hair. Look for a spray that will add shine and control frizz.

2. Use a pair of medium-sized heated tongs to curl sections of the hair.

3. Use a curl-enhancing mousse to shape and define curls.

Pay more attention to the curls nearer the cheekbones and jawline as these frame and soften the face.

4. Finish off the look with hairspray to hold the style in place and protect against humidity.
