Zac Efron, who stars in the upcoming Baywatch movie with Dwayne Johnson, has been cast as notorious serial killer Ted Bundy in a new film, according to Hollywood Reporter.

The plot in the movie, called Extremely Wicked, Shockingly Evil And Vile, will hinge on the perspective of Bundy's long-time girlfriend Elizabeth Kloepfer who had harboured suspicions that he could be up to no good.

Bundy was involved in the disappearances of multiple young women and girls in the United States in the 1970s.

Described in media reports during his court trials as attractive, he managed to tap on his charms to commit at least 30 self-confessed homicides, though the exact tally remains a subject for debate.

Bundy even managed to escape from prison twice to extend his murderous spree.

He was put to death, via electric chair, in 1989.
