Vincent Wong is TVB's new king

HONG KONG • Broadcaster TVB anointed Vincent Wong and Natalie Tong its new king and queen at its Anniversary Awards on Sunday.

Wong, 34, won Best Actor for the first time, for his role as a blind barrister in Legal Mavericks, said Ming Pao Daily News. He thanked all who had supported him, starting with TVB's satellite channel.

"Thank you, TVB8, for giving me music and variety shows when I had double-digit figures in my bank and couldn't get money out of the ATM," he said.

He thanked his parents for "allowing my wayward pursuit of my dream, when I didn't bring home one buck for 13 years". He thanked his family, including his wife, actress Yoyo Chen, for being his safe haven.

A weeping Tong, 36, won Best Actress for the first time too, for My Unfair Lady, the romance in which she and Wong played a will-they-won't-they couple.

Kenneth Ma, the hot favourite in the Best Actor category, won Most Popular Male Character for his role as a ghostbusting taxi driver in The Exorcist's Meter. That fantasy comedy also won in a new category, Global Internet Users' Favourite Drama.

Sisley Choi won Most Popular Female Character for her role as a law clerk from a criminal family in Legal Mavericks. Best Drama went to My Ages Apart, the sci-fi comedy starring Bobby Au-Yeung.
