To Russia, with love

I enjoyed the two travel pieces on Russia - Seeing Siberia From A Train (Life, Oct 25) and Modern Moscow(Life, Nov1).

I've been a Russophile for some years now and I must say the country deserves to be visited by more tourists. My Russian friends are happy with any positive coverage on their country, given the usually negative coverage in the Western media.

The article on the Trans-Siberian Railway reminded me of what I have not done. Many people do the Trans-Mongolian part of the Trans-Siberian route but they rarely complete the full journey to Vladivostok in Russia.

I was in Moscow and St Petersburg in July last year and fell in love with the cities. I met some of the kindest and most amicable people there.

Despite the tragedies they have gone through, the Russians are still very proud of their country's history and heritage.
