Pop royalty Beatles Paul McCartney and Ringo Starr reunited in the recording studio on Sunday (Feb 19), and they were joined at one point by former Eagles member Joe Walsh.

Beatles drummer Starr, 76, posted a photo of himself with McCartney, 74, on Twitter, with the caption: "Thanks for coming over man and playing great bass. I love you man peace and love."

He later tweeted another photo, this time with Walsh, 69.

Starr's publicist confirmed that McCartney was there to contribute to Starr's upcoming album, Billboard.com said in a report on Monday (Feb 20).

The producer for the album, Bruce Sugar, posted a photo with both the remaining Beatles on Facebook, saying he had a "magical day in the studio today with these two".

McCartney and Starr have remained active in the music scene, with McCartney releasing a solo album, New, in 2013, and Starr unveiling his Postcards From Paradise album in 2015.

In October last year, McCartney released a new song, In The Blink Of An Eye, for the film Ethel & Ernest.

The last time the two surviving Beatles members worked together was on Starr's 2010 album Y Not where they collaborated on two tracks.
