Singapore Idol winner Taufik Batisah getting married next month

SINGAPORE - Singer-songwriter Taufik Batisah is getting married next month, he said in a statement on Saturday.

In it, the 33-year-old thanked fans for their good wishes, writing: "Thank you everyone for your kind words and well wishes.

"Similarly to how we have shared both joys and tears together throughout my career, I would also like to share this personal joy with all of you. I am glad to have finally found the special someone whom I can share my future with."

Taufik said that his wife-to-be is not from the entertainment industry, contrary to rumours circulating that he had been dating a Malaysian actress.

He added: "It will be a pretty hectic time for us leading to the wedding with all the preparations. I do hope that you will continue to support and pray for the best of us."

The New Paper had reported earlier that the bride is a Singaporean, and that the wedding will take place over the long weekend in April. It also said that wedding invitations will go out next week, citing Taufik's label Hype Records.

Taufik shot to fame as the winner of the first season of Singapore Idol in 2004. His fifth and latest album, Fique, was released last year, and he bagged three awards - Most Popular Song (Singapore), Most Popular Artist and Social Media Icon - at regional Malay music awards show Anugerah Planet Muzik in October.
