LOS ANGELES (REUTERS) - Beatles drummer Ringo Starr had more than one thing to celebrate on July 7 as it was not only his 77th birthday but he also used the occasion to announce he has a new album out called Give More Love.

The album, due to be released in September features two tracks where he's collaborated with the other remaining member of the Fab Four, Paul McCartney.

"Well we are still mates," said Starr. "He's out on the road, he's got his own life, I'm out on the road a lot making records and he was in town so I called him and I said 'I've got this track for you to play on'. I just love him but I love the way he plays. I said to Nathan East there are two bass players in this world and you're the other."

The birthday celebrations happened outside the Capitol Records building in Hollywood where Starr also held his annual salute to "Peace and Love".

And of course, no birthday party could have been complete without a bit of music....

....and of course a cake.
