NEW YORK•American singer Katy Perry's music video Rise became the butt of Internet jokes when she released it on Thursday.
All because fully naked pictures of her British beau, actor Orlando Bloom, had hit the Web, just hours before the video's release.
Bloom, 39, was pictured sans swimming trunks on Tuesday as he holidayed with Perry on the Italian island of Sardinia.
The photo appeared, with the actor's sensitive parts obscured, on British tabloid Daily Star's cover on Wednesday.
It shows him holding an oar and kneeling on a paddleboard while bikini-clad Perry sat in front.
"Blooming Oarsome Orlando" was the Daily Star's headline. New York Daily News posted the censored pictures on Twitter saying, "In Full Bloom: Orlando Bloom bares all on vacation with Katy Perry."
Social media users quickly linked Rise with news of Bloom's indecent exposure.
"It's no wonder Katy Perry's new song is called Rise," went one of the print-friendly comments on Twitter, about Bloom's pictures.
Were the photos released to promote Rise?
Or linked to last month's engagement news of Bloom's ex-wife Miranda Kerr, 33, and Snapchat boss Evan Spiegel, 26?
There were no comments from the couple.
Perry, 31, wrote Rise as a song to be used in television network NBC's coverage of the Rio Olympics.
