It was a father-son victory for actors Re Somasundaram and Karthikeyan Somasundaram at Pradhana Vizha 2016, the annual ceremony that celebrates the best in local Indian television.
The elder Mr Somasundaram, 69, received the Lifetime Achievement Award for his five-decade contributions to the local Indian media and community, while his son was one of the big winners with two awards - Best Actor, for his role as Chinnaiya in Annamalai Season 2, and Best Host (Info-Ed), for Sathuranga Vettai.
Says Karthikeyan, a co-host of the event: "Announcing my father's name to receive the award is a memorable moment in my life. I've always looked up to him as a hardworking artist. Even after so many years of experience, he still stays humble and continues to improve."
The 32-year-old says his double victory was "totally unexpected". "I was more concerned about my hosting links and entertaining the crowd that night. It was a huge responsibility that just completely took my attention."
The other big winner was Jaynesh Isuran, who took home the Best Actor in a Comedy Role, for his turn as Udayasoorian in Kudumbam United 1, as well as the Most Popular Male Personality award.
Vickneswary Se walked away with the Best Actress award for her role in Ragasiyam 2, and Vettai 3, a police drama, won Best Drama Series and Most Popular Programme.
Now in its 15th year, the awards ceremony last Saturday, which was telecast live on Mediacorp's Vasantham, saw a total of 27 awards given out at the MES Theatre At Mediacorp.
