Home-grown singer Nathan Hartono will take on his first lead movie role in a car-racing film tentatively titled Warrior Of Love.

To be directed by Singaporean film-maker Derrick Lui (1400, 2015), the Singapore-Taiwan film is the love story between a woman and a professional racecar driver.

Hartono, 25, said in a press statement: "I am still very raw when it comes to screen acting as I have been involved in only a handful of projects that required acting. It is a great honour to be offered the leading role in this film.

"I do feel the pressure, but it is the good kind of pressure, the kind that drives me to improve and do greater things. I cannot wait to take on the challenges this film will bring."

He has had acting gigs in the 2012 musical Spring Awakening, as well as HBO Asia series Halfworlds (2015). He also had a cameo in Chinese New Year movie The Fortune Handbook (2017).

The singer gained international fame last year when he emerged as the first runner-up in the popular Chinese TV singing competition, Sing! China.

Co-written by Singapore's Boris Boo with Taiwan's Gavin Lin and Hermes Lu, the US$1.8-million (S$2.5-million) film is a co-production between SIMF Management and Opensky Entertainment.
