SINGAPORE - Martin Scorsese, 76, is the United States' greatest living director with an unmatched eight Academy Award nominations.

He is the godfather of Italian-American gangland dramas. His latest stars Robert De Niro in a biographical account of greying, enfeebled hitman Frank Sheeran during his dying days, reflecting on his criminal career under Philadelphia mafia kingpin Russell Bufalino and, notably, his involvement in the notorious never-solved disappearance of union president Jimmy Hoffa in 1975.
