SINGAPORE- Tickets for six screenings for SG50 film project 7 Letters were snapped up in just three hours on Saturday morning.
The tickets at the National Museum of Singapore were to be given out on a first-come-first-served basis over the weekend.
The screenings over the Jubilee weekend from Aug 8 to 10 were on top of three screenings at the Capitol Theatre in July. The National Museum came forward to host three additional screenings due to overwhelming demand, and even then, three more screenings had to be added.
The movie represents seven heartfelt "love letters" from the directors to Singapore, capturing their personal connections with the country.
Made in celebration of SG50, the short films were directed by acclaimed local film-makers Boo Junfeng, Eric Khoo, K. Rajagopal, Jack Neo, Tan Pin Pin, Royston Tan and Kelvin Tong.
Editor of arts and culture guide A List Pamela Ho wrote on her Facebook page that more than 1,000 people queued at the Museum from 9am to get their tickets.
"You know, I'm loving how Singaporeans are supporting our local filmmakers. This says a lot to me. Think it's time to go commercial with this, Royston," she said, referring to award-winning director Royston Tan, who led the 7 Letters project.
