May 4 is Star Wars day, or that day when "May the fourth be with you" is an acceptable form of greeting.

The Force is strong on social media, as fans of a galaxy far, far away showcase their creativity and love for the iconic sci-fi franchise with videos, memes and gifs.

Who better to lead the way than Disney, which owns the Star Wars franchise. Using emojis, the plot of the recent Force Awakens movie is retold in an entertaining three-minute skit.

Even footballers can be Jedi too, it seems. A Chicago Fire player shows off some impressive "telekinesis" abilities which should impress even Yoda himself.

A Star Destroyer hovering over the Sports Hub in Kallang? It would seem so, in this cute gif on the Pok Pok and Away! blog, written and drawn by local illustrator Xin Li.

Twitter user Tom Nightingale had quite a view outside his bedroom window, spotting not just a Star Destroyer but the ominous Death Star as well.

It's a day for puns, so why not - May the (Colin) Firth be with you.

Even the Star Trek community is not averse to joining in the fun. Live long and prosper (even if fans of Star Wars and Star Trek don't always get along).

And to cap it all off, a homemade rendition of the famous Cantina Band tune from Episode IV: A New Hope.
