American pop diva Mariah Carey is in the news again - this time for delivering a lacklustre performance of her 1994 holiday hit All I Want For Christmas Is You at the annual tree lighting in Rockerfeller Center in New York City.

According to celebrity gossip website TMZ, the singer was originally going to tape her performance, but arrived more than three hours late for a Tuesday pre-taping because she had a meeting with lawyers over her divorce from her husband, comedian and television personality Nick Cannon.

The plan was eventually abandoned, with Carey having to sing live on Wednesday night. The next day, a recording of Carey's below-par performance, sans music, was leaked online.

It is not the first time Carey has been criticised for not being able to keep a tune.

In October, the 44-year-old pop chanteuse, famed for her five-octave vocal range, had a disastrous start to her world tour which opened in Japan. Videos of her performance surfaced online, showing the singer struggling to hit the high notes in her songs.

But her performance at the National Stadium in Singapore on Oct 27 proved naysayers wrong, as she nailed most of the difficult notes in her repertoire of hits spanning her 26-year career.
