Kreuk wants to produce, not act

Kristin Kreuk could be done with acting in a couple of years.

The star of TV series Beauty And The Beast tells Life that if all goes according to plan, she would eventually be working full-time behind the scenes.

"I'd like to be out of acting and into producing within the next five or seven years. I don't know how realistic that is, but I'm certainly working towards that," says the 32-year-old enthusiastically.

After starting her own production company Parvati Creative in 2010, she produced short film Blink (2012), as well as the comedy sci-fi flick Space Milkshake (2012).

In the upcoming fourth season of Beauty And The Beast, where she reprises her role of detective Catherine Chandler, she gets producer credit for an episode.

"I learnt a new aspect of making a TV series and that's so exciting. I want to pitch and make shows and now, when I get the free time, I meet other people and we discuss ideas for new TV series. I want to be creating something," she says.

Kreuk, a Canadian of Dutch-Chinese descent, adds: "I've been acting on TV for 17 years and I've become comfortable on a TV set - which is bad because you want to be scared."

Since her TV debut in 2001, she has been acting consistently, several times in a role that spans many seasons.

She says that at her first audition, she was booked for a job "which ended up going to series". That series was Edgemont (2001 - 2005), a family drama where she played an aspiring film-maker.

She also won the female lead role in hit Superman-inspired TV series Smallville (2001 - 2009), where she played the love interest of a teenage Clark Kent for eight seasons.

She says: "There's a weird serendipity thing going on for me, to have gotten work so consistently for so long. I've been lucky."

For someone who has been working for so long in showbusiness, there is little gossip about her. She has reportedly been dating Canadian actor Mark Hildreth, 37, for the past 11 years.

She says: "It's not like I'm hiding something - I think I'm just boring. What I do and how I am don't lend to anything scandalous.

"I prefer to watch documentaries and just hang out at home."
