SEOUL (THE KOREA HERALD/ASIA NEWS NETWORK) - South Korean singer Kim Hyun Joong said on Monday he was not sure if his ex-girlfriend, surnamed Choi, was pregnant. But it turned out on Tuesday that he actually knew.

"We are not denying that she is pregnant. Kim learned about it when Choi sent him sonograms of a fetus," his agency KeyEast said on Tuesday afternoon.

"What we are saying is that Kim asked Choi to visit a hospital with him to check her and the baby's condition, but she did not respond," the label added, explaining why the star said he could not confirm the pregnancy.

The agency also said that the two are not at all considering getting married.

The remarks came after Choi confirmed that she was pregnant with Kim's baby and refuted his claim that he did not know about the pregnancy and could not reach her.

"Choi is pregnant and she has solid evidence to prove it," said her legal representative.

The "he said she said" statements began after a local magazine, Woman Sense, reported on Sunday that Kim was reunited with Choi, who is now in her 11th week of pregnancy. The news came as a shock because she had sued him for assaulting her last year.

On Monday, he said in a press release he could not confirm her pregnancy because he could not reach her but would take full responsibility if she was found to be pregnant. He said he met her a few times after the lawsuit came to a close, but they agreed to go their separate ways at the end of last year.

According to him, she contacted him first early last month to tell him she was pregnant. When he asked her to visit a hospital for a check-up, she turned him down, he said.

She had filed a complaint against him in August last year, accusing him of repeatedly beating her when they were romantically involved. He initially denied the allegations, but apologised to her a month later.

In response, she dropped the charges. But the court ordered Kim to pay a fine of 5 million won (S$6,100) last month.
