Johnny Depp confirms engagement, says 'chick's ring' on left hand is a 'dead giveaway'

Beijing - Johnny Depp confirmed rumours of his engagement to actress Amber Heard by showing off what he calls a "chick's ring" on his hand.

The actor was asked on Monday if the ring he was wearing confirmed months of rumours that he was engaged.

"The fact that I'm wearing a chick's ring on my finger is probably a dead giveaway. Not very subtle," Depp, 50, was quoted as replying by the Associated Press.

He laughed as he lifted his left hand, which showed a single diamond on a band around his ring finger, reported AP.

"I think that I would be better at making women's shoes than I would be at wedding planning, I can't plan anything. I'm really bad at that stuff," he added at a press conference.

He was in Beijing to promote his new movie Transcendence, in which he plays an ill scientist who downloads his mind into a computer in the sci-fi drama that asks: What if we could upload a human mind into a computer? It opens in China on April 18.

In January, Us Weekly reported that Depp had proposed to his Rum Diaries co-star Heard after nearly two years of dating. They went public with their relationship in June 2012, shortly after he announced his split from his partner of 14 years, French model-singer Vanessa Paradis.
