NEW YORK •Alex Rodriguez may have hit a home run in his romance with singer Jennifer Lopez, but the paparazzi thinks he is her bodyguard.

Lamenting to Jimmy Fallon on The Tonight Show last week, the 41-year-old former baseball great said his match-up with Lopez, 47, has been a "humbling experience".

"When I was with the (New York) Yankees and we won the world championship and you wear the pinstripes (uniform), you think you're pretty cool.

"But then you hang out with Jennifer and they confuse me with the security guard all the time."

He is even shouted at by paparazzi to get out of the way so that they can take a good snap of the bootylicious singer at red-carpet and black-tie events, reported Fox News.

"We were at the Met Ball and the paparazzi were screaming at me, not even in English, 'Get the hell out of the way, get out of the way. We're trying to take a picture,'" Rodriguez recalled.

The couple, who have been dating for several months, met in 2005 at a Yankees game.

He was playing at the time and she was with then husband Marc Anthony.

While they have appeared to be madly in love in media photos, reports have also swirled that she has given him an ultimatum that he must be a one-woman man. Madonna was once linked to him.

But if the lovebirds decide to build a family nest, she may have to share his heart with baseball.

He put in 22 years in the professional game before retiring last August.

"I have three television sets in my living room and I'll have the East Coast game, the central game and the West Coast game and my daughters (from a previous marriage) are like, 'Daddy, it's too much. I thought you were retired.'"
