PRIDE AND PREJUDICE AND ZOMBIES
This is my ultimate wish come true - female-themed literature mixed with beastly slaughter.
In England in the early 19th century, lovely Elizabeth Bennet (Lily James, above centre) meets eligible Mr Darcy (Sam Riley) in Pride And Prejudice- type surroundings along with a relentless intrusion of, ahem, nasty, vicious zombies.
"A woman must have a thorough knowledge of singing, dancing and the art of war," Mr Darcy proclaims. Meaning that Ms Bennet, after the deadly Black Plague, leads a bunch of properly mannered, sword-wielding ladies to go on a Buffy The Vampire Slayer-killing spree on the walking dead.
"The fairest wifely choices be right here in this room," one suitor observes about the seemingly docile damsels. It's absurdly hilarious in a snooty way.
JANE GOT A GUN
In this western, Jane (Natalie Portman) seeks the help of her ex-boyfriend, a gunslinger (Joel Edgerton, both above), to shoot the heck out of a gang of baddies led by Ewan McGregor while her ex-criminal-hubby (Noah Emmerich) lies injured in bed.
But there's nothing like taking up arms herself.
I'm really taken by the sight of Portman dressed in frontier chic wielding weaponry such as a rifle that's only slightly shorter than her.
"These crazy kids", as old-time cowboy Clint Eastwood would say.
