JACK REACHER: NEVER GO BACK
You know, every time I see Tom Cruise as Jack Reacher, the drifter ex-military cop and tough human pulveriser, I keep thinking that the character ought to be renamed because Cruise, who has to be one of the shortest A-listers in Hollywood, simply cannot reach.
But you had better not mess with Tom Thumb. In this sequel to 2012's original actioner, he goes into rabid Wolverine mode, cracking heads, elbowing faces and even smashing his fist through a car window to punch some poor sap.
"You're a legend," an army major played by Cobie Smulders says to him, which swells his head even more. Nothing can stop Cruise as he bulldozes his way to rescue the framed Smulders from a military prison and uncover a military conspiracy, which could be even more sinister than his marriage to Katie Holmes.
KEEPING UP WITH THE JONESES
What is the big deal about your neighbours suddenly turning out to be super spies? Happens all the time in the movies these days, right?
Isla Fisher and her scaredy-cat hubby Zach Galifianakis (The Hangover movies) suspect that their "overly accomplished and stylish" perfect-specimen new neighbours (Jon Hamm and Gal Gadot) in the suburbs may be highly trained secret agents.
This clip looks predictable because this plot is so familiar. You know, of course, that the ordinary couple will be roped in for dangerous espionage work.
What redeems the trailer is the adorably likeable Fisher, who is Mrs Sacha Baron Cohen in real life. She is very comical squaring off as Little Woman against the statuesque Gadot, also known as Wonder Woman, in a changing room. Living with Borat, one of Cohen's characters, pays off in comic timing here.
