Up until Sylvester "Rocky" Stallone appears with his trademark hat and slurred speech as a boxing coach-motivator- nostalgic throwback-living relic, this trailer looks like the sequel to Fruitvale Station, the serious, dramatic 2013 debut film of director Ryan Coogler, who also helms this new work.

But it's really about Adonis Creed (Michael B. Jordan, above right, from upcoming Fantastic Four), the son of Rocky's old nemesis, Apollo Creed. "People die in the ring. Your daddy died in the ring," Creed Junior is told and you quickly recall Dolph Lundgren as the Soviet machine whopping the c**p out of Apollo Creed back in the super-cheesy Rocky IV (1985).

Now I know what a TV cop show would look like if you have money, expensive cameras and real star power. Oscar royalty Julia Roberts (above left) and Nicole Kidman (right) pop up here. I'm so pumped up for this revenge drama because of a truly shockingly terrific moment: Roberts, playing a Los Angeles FBI agent, finds out that the dead body in a dumpster she is investigating is her own daughter. Kidman plays an icy, by-the- book district attorney.

Another FBI agent is played by Chiwetel Ejiofor, who puts his expert pained look to great use as he reopens the case years after the killer goes free. A languishing Roberts is re-energised to hunt down the murderer like Dirty Harry's very angry sister.
