Forget spooks and fangs. Star Wars was a hot theme last Saturday as some celebrities took their cue from the upcoming film, Star Wars: The Force Awakens, to pose for pictures celebrating Halloween.

Those who dressed up as Star Wars characters included comedian Jimmy Kimmel and TV couple Heidi Montag and Spencer Pratt, TV star Nicole "Snooki" Polizzi, as well as Canadian Prime Minister-designate Justin Trudeau.

But, hands down, many agree it was TV personality Neil Patrick Harris who stood out.

In a family photo posted on Instagram, he is seen dressed as Jedi master Obi-Wan Kenobi, his spouse David Burtka as Han Solo, and their children Harper and Gideon as Princess Leia and Luke Skywalker. "A long time ago in a Halloween far, far away...," he wrote.

Also seen in the Star Wars spirit was Mr Trudeau, dressed as Han Solo, as he went trick-or-treating in Ottawa with his wife Sophie Gregoire in a Princess Leia costume and their three children.

Still, the place to see the most crazy costumes was at model Heidi Klum's annual Halloween bash, and this year, the hostess again stunned with another of her famous transformations.

She appeared in incredible likeness as Disney character Jessica Rabbit from the 1988 animated film Who Framed Roger Rabbit. It took her all of 10 hours, using prosthetics, hair and make-up, to complete the makeover, which she shared on Instagram.

Meanwhile, Taiwanese singer Jay Chou and his wife Hannah Quinlivan took a leaf out of manga for their Halloween photo. They wore make-up to resemble hand-drawn characters, and Quinlivan, with her exaggerated eye make-up, was mistaken online for Chou's rumoured former love Jolin Tsai. Quinlivan wrote on Facebook: "Using comic style to wish all happy Halloween."
