From traditional music to edgy, contemporary sounds, the Esplanade's Pesta Raya concerts showcase the evolution of Malay music through the years. Tonight, singers Aisyah Aziz and Rudy Djoharnaen pay tribute to the songs of Malay music doyenne Nona Asiah at the Esplanade Concert Hall, while one of Malaysia's foremost hip-hop artists, Altimet (left) holds court at the Recital Studio. Tomorrow night sees one of Indonesia's most popular bands, Noah, play at the Concert Hall while experimental quintet Pitahati perform at the Recital Studio.

Fans of Japanese pop idol Hideaki Takizawa (left) can finally catch him in action in Singapore. Instead of performing as one-half of Tackey & Tsubasa, he will be the star of a theatre show named after him. Takizawa Kabuki is a modern take on the traditional Japanese form of theatre that is kabuki and infuses elements of pop and technology.

Two upcoming home-grown bands from the most recent Baybeats mentorship programme are releasing their debut EPs with a joint show. Aquila Vasica play what they term electronic post-hardcore and Vessel are influenced by a variety of genres, from metal to jazz. Their compatriots from the local scene, Heir Of Hounds and 7nightsatsea, will open the show.
