IGNITE! MUSIC FESTIVAL 2015

The eighth edition of Republic Polytechnic's annual music festival features 17 acts from the home-grown music scene, including rappers Shigga Shay and Thelioncityboy, percussion troupe Wicked Aura, prog-rockers In Each Hand A Cutlass, former Singapore Idol Sezairi, pop-punk trio Iman's League and soul-pop singer Dru Chen. The two-day event is curated and organised by the school's students.

Best known for the boisterous, stadium-rock anthems Radioactive and Demons, American band Imagine Dragons have not only topped the mainstream charts, but have also been feted with Grammys, Billboard nods and American Music Awards. The Las Vegas quartet play their first gig in Singapore, part of the global tour in support of their sophomore album, Smoke + Mirrors .

Home-grown jazz stalwart Jeremy Monteiro plays his first show with one of America's finest living jazz pianists, Kenny Barron, recently voted Pianist of the Year in the annual Critics Poll by jazz magazine DownBeat. Besides jazz standards, expect the virtuoso duo to play some of Barron's best-known songs such as Calypso and Voyage, as well as Monteiro's Lion City, a special SG50 piece commissioned by the EFG London Jazz Festival.

Billed as a "modern soul one-woman-band", rising singer, musician and songwriter Beth Yap has been building up her name in the scene with intriguing tunes combining jazz, pop and electronica. At this gig, she will preview songs off her upcoming debut album Beauty For Ashes.

Grammy-winning rap pioneers Arrested Development and multi-platinum-selling New York rapper Fat Joe are the headline acts of the hip-hop and soul music festival this year. Also performing are Detroit hip-hop group Slum Village, award- winning DJ collective The Triple Threat DJs, Australian avant- garde hip-hop act N'fa Jones and familiar names in the home- grown scene, Matteblacc and Pushin'On.
