Having broken the collective hearts of One Direction fans after severing ties with the band in March, Zayn Malik has done it again.

The 22-year-old has reportedly called off his engagement with fiancee Perrie Edwards, leaving her "devastated and torn up".

A representative for Malik confirmed the news with US Weekly, with sources saying that he "just wanted to move on and start over in all ways".

Malik, who initiated the breakup a few weeks ago, got engaged to the Little Mix singer, also 22, in August 2013.

The pair first met on the set of reality show The X Factor in 2011 and became a couple in May the following year.

Malik had left One Direction after five years, citing stress and the wish to "lead a normal life".

He signed a record deal with RCA last month to pursue a solo career.
