Ex-supermodel Gisele Bundchen has come under fire after a newspaper claimed that she wore a burqa to secretly go under the knife last month.

According to The New York Post, the 35-year-old visited the renowned Clinique Du Darc Monceau for plastic surgery on her breasts and eyes during Ramadan.

A source told the paper that Bundchen was concerned with her sagging figure after giving birth to two children and that the procedures were a birthday gift - which falls on July 20 - to herself.

But the Brazilian, who was allegedly photographed clad from top to bottom in the traditional Muslim wear, gave herself away by wearing open-toed sandals.

Coincidentally, the burqa has been banned in France since 2010, amid criticisms that it was targeted at Muslim women. It is illegal for anyone to cover their face in public.

Bundchen, who retired from the catwalk in April at the Sao Paulo Fashion Week, had previously insisted that she would never resort to plastic surgery.

The world's highest-paid model - Forbes said she earned US$47 million (S$64.7 million) last year - reportedly paid US$11,000 for the surgery.
