Doris Roberts, an Emmy award winning actress and star of Everybody Loves Raymond dies at the age of 90.

Hollywood actress Doris Roberts, known for her role as Marie Barone in hit sitcom Everybody Loves Raymond, died on Monday (April 18) in Los Angeles. She was 90.

Her death was first reported by TMZ, and confirmed by her son Michael Cannata.

A family spokesman told The Associated Press that Roberts died overnight in her sleep. However, the cause of her death is still unknown.

Roberts had received four Emmys for her role in Everybody Loves Raymond which ran for nine seasons.

Co-stars Phil Rosenthal, Madylin Sweeten and Patricia Heaton, and other celebrities took to social media to honour the actress.

Roberts is survived by Cannata, her son from her first marriage, and three grandchildren Kelsey, Andrew, and Devon Cannata.
