Taipei - Golden Horse-winning actor Ethan Juan and model Tiffany Hsu are taking a break from their eight-year relationship as she moves out of their home, but he denies speculation about his infidelity.
Hsu, 30, spoke to Apple Daily after rumours spread that she initiated a break-up a month ago. "Now is the cooling-off period. We'll live separately first," she was quoted as saying by the newspaper today.
Juan, 32, said: "We're just temporarily living apart. We haven't broken up. She's still my one and only."
His agent also denied speculation that Chinese actress Zhou Dongyu had come between the Taiwanese celebrity couple, said Apple Daily.
Zhou, 23 - who made her debut in the 2010 Zhang Yimou movie Under The Hawthorn Tree - stars with Juan in two new films, The Unbearable Lightness Of Inspector Fan and Under The Sicily Sun. Her agent said she thought of the actor as a senior and had not contacted him after filming ended.
Juan's romance with Hsu was first reported in 2007, after he was photographed rubbing lotion on her in Kenting, a seaside resort in southern Taiwan, said Apple Daily.
She moved in with him in 2010. That year, he was reported to have checked into a hotel in Taichung with someone else, but he said that it was a misunderstanding and that the woman was his friend's girlfriend. Hsu backed Juan up then, saying she trusted him.
He has said several times they will marry. In 2012, she said they had reached a consensus on marriage, but it would have to wait for two years.
Juan was annoyed when asked about the latest rumours about his roving eye, said Apple Daily. "Where are these rumours from? Whom did I go off with?" he said.
He explained that he and Hsu had come to a critical juncture in their relationship.
"It's just because we've been together for a long time and we're hoping to stop and think, do we get married or what? She's still important to me and, at this most important time for us, can you give us a little space?"
According to Apple Daily, Juan picked up Hsu in his car after her facial last Wednesday. She later said he had rushed there to meet her, after a mutual friend notified him of her whereabouts.
Hsu now lives with her mother, said the newspaper.
