Toy Factory Productions' new Mandarin musical will feature 12 of Malaysian singer-songwriter Eric Moo's hit songs, including You're My Only One and Too Foolish. This marks the first time a musical has been written based on the powerhouse singer's songs.
Titled Innamorati, the homegrown musical will run from July 24 to August 3 at the Drama Centre Theatre. It follows the personal stories of seven young people, tracing their journeys as they follow their passion for music and performing.
The title "Innamorati" is an Italian term meaning "the lovers", and is taken from the theatre genre commedia dell'arte, a form which dates back to the 16th century and relies heavily on the use of masks. It refers to a set of characters whose sole purpose is to be in love with each other; despite difficulties, the lovers are always united at the end.
Goh Boon Teck, the founder of Toy Factory, will be directing the production, which stars Singaporean singer-host Huang Jinglun, 30. Huang, who competed in the popular Taiwanese reality TV singing competition One Million Star in 2008, has since made a name for himself in Taiwan as a singer and host.
Eric Moo's brother, music producer Allan Moo, has also come on board as the production's musical director and vocal coach. Other key members of the cast include Singaporean singers Tay Kewei and Sugie Phua.
