Depp 'hit and suffocated' Heard

NEW YORK • More details of actor Johnny Depp's alleged abuse of his estranged wife Amber Heard have been revealed in her defamation lawsuit against comedian Doug Stanhope, says People magazine.

Heard's lawyers filed the complaint last Friday after Stanhope wrote an article published on The Wrap entertainment website accusing the actress of blackmailing and manipulating Depp.

"Depp has hit and kicked Heard on numerous occasions, has thrown objects at her, at one point suffocated her to the point where she feared for her life," says the court filing, reports People.

Heard says that after each alleged attack, she would return to Depp "hoping optimistically that the man she married would change his behaviour", but that "within months, the cycle of substance abuse and violence repeated".

In the filing, she calls Depp "an alcoholic and drug addict" and says most of the alleged attacks occurred when he "relapsed into a cycle of substance abuse".

The lawsuit is the latest step in the increasingly acrimonious split between Heard, 30, and Depp, 52, who had been married for 15 months. She filed for divorce last month.
