London - Newlyweds George Clooney and Amal Alamuddin are spending their honeymoon in a luxurious mansion in the English countryside, reported Us entertainment magazine and Daily Mail.

The US$8 million (S$10 million) mansion in Oxfordshire, a county in southeast England that is just an hour by train to London, is reported to have a spa, a cinema room and two cottages in the grounds.

The couple, who got married in Venice last week, are said to be alone at the house and have their meals delivered to them by a catering company.

Clooney, 53, met Alamuddin, 36, in Italy last September and proposed to her in April this year. He owns a number of properties including an Italian villa in Lake Como.

The actor-director became famous after starring in the hit television series ER and won an Oscar for Best Supporting Actor for Syriana (2005).

Alamuddin, a lawyer, studied at the French school in London and holds law degrees from Oxford and New York University.
