Taipei - Writer-director Giddens Ko said on Friday he regretted cheating on his girlfriend, especially after she reacted to his confession with quiet sadness.

On Facebook, he said he came clean with his girlfriend of nine years, illustrator Hsiao-nei, about his affair with television reporter Chou Yu-ting, after a call from Next Magazine on Tuesday left him uneasy, reported Nownews website. The magazine had called him for a confirmation of his two motel trysts, after photographing him with Chou on Oct 14 and 16 but mistaking Chou for his girlfriend.

After he talked to the magazine, he decided to confess to his girlfriend and beg forgiveness, he said. "Although she was very sad, she finally looked at me and said some very gentle words. I had infinite regret, and I was more ashamed than I would have been if she had scolded me angrily and forcefully. I really, really want us to go back to the simplest life of dragon boat races."

But he said he did not dare think about his future, and would work hard to restore their relationship.

Noting that he had been lambasted for the affair, he said he deserved it for breaking his girlfriend's heart. He wrote: "I'm sorry, everything is my fault."

After his post, some Netizens defended him, saying the good things he had done should not be written off after one mistake.

But others said he might not have come clean if he had not been caught on camera.
