Darth Vader to return in Star Wars spin-off

Cinema's ultimate villain, Darth Vader, is set to make a comeback with an appearance in Rogue One: A Star Wars Story, Entertainment Weekly said on Wednesday. The first standalone Star Wars story, Rogue One, is set before A New Hope, the 1977 original film, and stars Felicity Jones, Mads Mikkelsen and Forest Whitaker. Entertainment Weekly did not say which actor had been hired for Vader's latest big screen outing, due to hit theatres in the United States on Dec 16.

Jagger and Scorsese's series cancelled

HBO unexpectedly cancelled its expensive but poorly rated rock 'n' roll drama Vinyl on Wednesday. The announcement represented a reversal for HBO, which announced in February, shortly after the show's premiere, that it would renew it for a second season. The 1970s music drama created by Mick Jagger and Martin Scorsese was troubled. In addition to mixed reviews and a low viewership, Terence Winter, its show runner, left two months ago.

'Too old' to be Spider-Man's girlfriend

Pitch Perfect 2 director Elizabeth Banks has revealed that she was turned down for the role of Spider-Man's girlfriend Mary- Jane Watson for the 2002 superhero movie for being "too old" - despite being 28, only 16 months older than the film's male lead Tobey Maguire. The role eventually went to Kirsten Dunst, who was 18 when filming began in 2001.
