Chance the Rapper gives $1.4m to schools

Fast-rising star Chance the Rapper on Monday donated US$1 million (S$1.4 million) to Chicago's schools as he waded into the middle of a political feud that threatens to close down classrooms weeks early.

Chicago has warned that its public schools could shut on June 1, three weeks ahead of schedule, due to a shortfall of more than US$200 million in funding.


Russian lawmaker calls for ban on Beauty

A Russian lawmaker who was the driving force behind a measure that banned the distribution of "homosexual propaganda" to minors said on Monday that the law should be applied to a new Disney version of Beauty And The Beast, even while acknowledging that he had not yet watched the movie.

Lawmaker Vitaly Milonov relied on news media reports and complaints from parents that the film includes a gay character who participates in a "sexually deviated scene", said his spokesman. This is an apparent reference to a seconds-long glimpse of a gay character dancing with the object of his affections.
