Page testifies in trial

Led Zeppelin guitarist Jimmy Page said in a copyright infringement trial on Wednesday he did not recall hearing, until recently, Taurus, the instrumental containing the musical riff his band are accused of stealing for their 1971 hit Stairway To Heaven.

Page, 72, said in a Los Angeles court he has the 1968 album by American band Spirit that includes Taurus in his collection of 9,000 albums and CDs, but said he did not think he had listened to it.

He said he listened to Taurus for the first time only after he knew of comparisons being made between Stairway and Taurus. "It was totally alien to me," he said of the song.
