Antibiotics do not cure all infections. They work against bacteria, but not other germs such as viruses. They will also not help to speed up recovery if your pet does not have a bacterial infection.

The overuse of antibiotics can contribute to antimicrobial resistance. Over time, antibiotics will become less effective against resistant bacteria, causing future bacterial infections to be more serious.
