A cappella groups, fusion band at SPH free concerts

Two local a cappella groups, MICappella and The Apex Project, and fusion band The Teng Ensemble will be making their debut at this year's SPH Gift Of Music.

They are among the performers featured in this series of 13 free community concerts held across Singapore, sponsored by Singapore Press Holdings (SPH).

Others in the line-up include stalwarts Singapore Symphony Orchestra (SSO) and Singapore Chinese Orchestra (SCO) at venues such as the Esplanade and concert halls.

The 14th iteration of the annual series kicks off with the SSO at Gardens by the Bay tomorrow.

The SSO has two other concert dates: The Straits Times Concert in the Gardens on July 29 and a lunchtime concert at Victoria Concert Hall on July 11.

The Teng Ensemble bridges Eastern and Western genres, with its six members playing the Chinese instruments pipa and sheng, as well as the guitar and cello.

Both MICappella and The Apex Project are award-winning a cappella groups from Singapore.

MICappella picked up the Best Asian Album award at the 2017 Contemporary A Cappella Recording Awards in the United States.

The Apex Project emerged champion at the 2016 National A Cappella Championships (Singapore).

Other events include SCO community concerts at Ci Yuan Community Club and near Jurong East MRT station, and two arts festivals.

They are Pesta Raya - Malay Festival of Arts, and Kalaa Utsavam - Indian Festival of Arts, both to be held at the Esplanade in July and November respectively. For more information, go to http://sph.com.sg/sph-gift-of-music
