A $3.6 million ring is set to dazzle visitors to Singapore JewelFest 2016

SINGAPORE - A US$2.7 million (S$3.6 million) ring featuring a 4.9-carat green diamond surrounded by 1.7-carat pink and 1.5-carat white diamonds is one of the highlights of this year's Singapore JewelFest.

The Monarch Mirabella ring, acquired from Sotheby's in April 2014, is being presented at the exhibition by Singapore label Vihari Jewels.

The 14th annual Singapore JewelFest, a curated exhibition aimed at jewellery lovers and collectors, will take place from Oct 7 to 16 at the Jewel Pavilion at Ngee Ann City.

The event will feature 57 jewellery retailers and designers from 15 different countries including Singapore, Belgium, Germany, Switzerland and Russia.

Another highlight of the 10-day exhibition is a necklace featuring a 13.73-carat Afghan emerald with sapphires, tsavorites and diamonds worth US$1.3 million.

According to festival organisers, last year's exhibition welcomed more than 27,000 visitors and notched up $15 million in sales.

The Singapore JewelFest 2016, which will occupy 10,000 sq ft, will include private fashion showcases which will pair luxury and high street fashion with jewellery.

Singaporean fashion designer Thomas Wee will be creating an exclusive couture collection for the festival which will be presented with statement jewellery pieces.

High-street fashion label G-Star Raw and Malaysian label Fiziwoo will also be holding showcases.

These private events will be by-invite and for pre-registered guests only. Registration details for the events will be announced at a later date when the Singapore JewelFest 2016 website is launched.

Though the event highlights include pieces that are worth millions, festival organisers are also aware of the slowing economy and have worked with participating jewellery brands to keep a "significant percentage" of the pieces at accessible prices. Some pieces will be priced below $10,000.

In a press release, festival director Angela Loh says: "Given the not so vibrant economic climate, we want to encourage sales by being realistic about price point but not compromising on quality."
