A failed braking system had caused the oil rig at Jurong Shipyard to tilt to one side on Monday, said Sembcorp Marine chief executive Wong Weng Sun.
Six shipyard workers, who were hurt when an oil rig at Jurong Shipyard lurched to one side on Monday, remain in hospital but are not in "serious condition".
Acting Manpower Minister Tan Chuan-Jin on Tuesday, praised the evacuation efforts at the Jurong Shipyard where an industrial accident a day before had sent more than 1,000 workers scurrying out of an oil rig for safety.
The Jurong shipyard accident showed that Singapore must remain vigilant and continue to do better when it comes to workplace safety, said Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong in a Facebook post on Monday night.
The Jurong shipyard accident which left 89 workers injured is "one of the worst accidents" in Singapore, said Senior Parliamentary Secretary for Manpower Hawazi Daipi.
At least 40 workers are believed to be injured when a jackup rig at Jurong Shipyard tilted to one side on Dec 3.
