THE LUCKY ONES: Survivors of the devastating earthquake that flattened the city of Yingxiu and wiped out nearly three-quarters of its population of 10,000. They may have survived, but the days ahead won't be easy: They are left with only the clothers on their backs. As the shell-shocked victims stepped off rescue boats on Thursday, each had a traumatic story to tell about being next to the dead, losing family members and living on a few sips of porridge a day. -- ST PHOTOS: CHUA CHIN HON

All the shops in her village near Dujiangyan city, in south-western Sichuan province, have been destroyed.
