Women's touch in politics beneficial for nation

It is important that women, including new mothers, be in politics so that they can contribute to Singapore ("Women have much to contribute in politics" by Ms Jolene Tan; Sept 9).

There are many women in the world who have played key roles in politics - Ms Benazir Bhutto of Pakistan, Mrs Margaret Thatcher of Britain, Dr Madeleine Albright and Mrs Hillary Clinton of the United States, Ms Helen Clark of New Zealand, Ms Aung San Suu Kyi of Myanmar and Ms Wu Yi of China, just to name a few.

Women who are new mothers are also important, as they will understand the importance of implementing policies which are beneficial to the welfare of women, new mothers, single mothers and children.

Politics is an extremely difficult and tough profession; many men would not consider going into such a profession due to the heavy duties and responsibilities.

It is extremely important that women, including new mothers, are encouraged to join politics so that they can contribute to Singapore.
