Use technology to mitigate unnecessary crane accidents

It is sad to hear of such incidents involving cranes happening time and again ("Lorry driver held over collapse of walkway shelter"; June 18).

It is high time that the Land Transport Authority made it mandatory for crane-carrying lorries to have warning systems that trigger an alarm and indicator if the vehicle drives off without retracting the crane.

The system should be inspected during the periodic vehicle inspections.

This will make crane-carrying lorries safer.
