Singapore's Changi Airport should deploy drones for surveillance of the carparks and other public places in the airport vicinity, as part of its productivity efforts (Aviation sector unveils masterplan to improve efficiency and productivity amid intensifying competition; ST Online, April 20).

Changi Airport continues to grow - Terminal 4 is set to open in the second half of this year, and Jewel Changi Airport in 2019. With the opening of Terminal 5, there will be massive grounds for the security forces to cover.

Not only can drones keep an eye on these vast grounds, but drone-augmented surveillance can also monitor activities, like breaches of the airport perimeter.

Low-flying drones can also be used for crowd control.

They can compliment the existing cameras in and around the airport to give a clear overview of what is happening on the ground.
