Time to rethink privatisation of train system

In the light of the latest train breakdown, the Government needs to rethink its belief that the privatisation of key infrastructure would give us better service, efficiency and cost savings.

If anything, public opinion is that this is not happening.

The age of the MRT system should not be a reason for the frequent breakdowns, as Japan's subway system is much older than ours, yet it hardly breaks down.

One reason could be that the train system in Japan is not privatised. The problem with privatisation is that the bottom line is a key concern, and corners will be cut to maintain profitability, as any private organisation would do.
